true love, does it exist?
The love story of Antony and Cleopatra touch my little heart. As I believe that love need sacrifices, I think that what Antony and Cleopatra had done for each other is real love. They are willing to risk their lives in order to prove their true love for each other. Although I am not totally agree with Antony’s action to marry another woman although he knows that he is totally in love with Cleopatra. By willing to die for the sake of the other party (the loved one) it shows that their love is true and beautiful. As a human being, I do love a true love story and that is why I keep reading the play in order to know their tragic love story.
30 Days of September; a critical issue
In the play “30 Days in September”, one major issue that is brought up by the playwright is the issue of child sexual abuse. The protagonist of the play, Mala and also her mother Shanti faced the problem of being sexually molested by one man which is Mala’s uncle and also Shanta’s brother, Vinay. The tragedy affected Mala badly. She has become a girl who cannot love a guy. She only wanted the pleasure of sexual but not loves. Although sexual pleasure is pain for her, she cannot escape from being ‘used’ by man. This is the psychological effect of being sexually molested by her uncle. As for her mother, the tragedy had made her a woman who cannot sexually satisfy her own husband. Her husband left her for another woman and claimed that Shanta is a ‘frozen woman’. As a way escapism from the pain and suffer that she felt, Shanta make herself lost in the world of God. By being a good servant to the God, she felt nothing; no pain, no pleasure. From the play, I can see that a girl who is sexually abused will faced a traumatic life for a very long time as long as no help is given to her.
sister's duty?
In “Streetcar Named Desire” I notice that Blance is bossy sister and wanted Stella to listen to her and not to her husband, Stanley. Although she is shown as a sister who is bossy and try to control her little sister, I sometimes felt that what Blance is doing is only for the good of Stella. As an older sister myself, sometimes I tried to protect my sister from getting hurt. Same as Blance who thought that Stella’s husband, Stanley, is hurting her and he does not respect her as his wife. But one thing that escapes Blance advice is that she forgets that Stella loves that man (her husband) and Stanley also loves her dearly but the way he shows his love is different. That is why I think that Blance decision to advice her little sister about her marriage is because she loves her dearly and she does not want Stella to get hurt.
