doing a simulated teaching...

last time when i take the course teaching the language of short stories, i had my fist experience with simulated teaching. now in the course teaching the language of drama, i also have to do simulated teaching. actually my first accounter with simulated teaching was not a good one. i was scared to death on going in front and try to teach something in front of my coursemate. but due to the fact that i have known all of them more than 3 years, the experience was not that bad. as time goes by, i know that sooner or later i will accounter the simulated teaching again. in the tutotial class with miss baiti8, i have to do a simple simulated teaching on teaching the theme of oedipus rex. it is not that hard because miss baiti just want us to do some simple activities on set induction and pre reading. and what an relieve that miss baiti just want us to do the procedure not the paperwork!! how nice of her...

All about Oedipus Rex....

After I finished reading the play Oedipus Rex from Sophocles, I understand why is this drama is a tragic play. As a strong and well respected king, Oedipus cannot even run from his tragic fate of killing his own father and marrying his mother. It shows the reversal of fortune when Oedipus the great and wise king tumble down to become the most pitiful person that ever lived. Moreover, his rage also contributes to his tragic flaw. He did not want to hear others comment about him and when into a rage when someone told him that he lived in shameless.

my first lesson of EDU3217

In my first lesson in the subject Teaching the Language of Drama, I learned the overview of the history of theatre. The Greek theatre was on of many theatres that colours the scene of drama. One of the popular works in that era was from Sophocles and I am very fortunate to study one of his works which is Oedipus Rex. In Greek Theatre, Aristotle creates the dramatic plot structure which is called Aristotelian Plot Structure. It is the traditional plot structure that I have learned before that comprises exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and last but not least resolution. Now I know that the traditional plot structure is from the great Aristotle.

my prior knowledge about drama

When little children talk about drama in particular theatre, they would associate it with hero, heroin, villain and happy ending. That was my interpretation once. However, when I become older and entering TESL course, I know that theatre is not just hero, heroin, villain and happy ending. The drama could be tragic or tragicomedy or any other types of drama. Drama could also be intellectual. It would have serious discussion on politic, language, social class and many more. It shows that drama is also good in discussing serious matters in the world.
