All about Oedipus Rex....

After I finished reading the play Oedipus Rex from Sophocles, I understand why is this drama is a tragic play. As a strong and well respected king, Oedipus cannot even run from his tragic fate of killing his own father and marrying his mother. It shows the reversal of fortune when Oedipus the great and wise king tumble down to become the most pitiful person that ever lived. Moreover, his rage also contributes to his tragic flaw. He did not want to hear others comment about him and when into a rage when someone told him that he lived in shameless.

I am agree with your statement that Oedipus was living in a state of shameless. It is true, because Teiresias want to tell him the true but he denied it. He cannot accept the true. And I think, the most important for him is his pride. Because as a king, he must protect himself and must not do the bad things in front of his citizen. He as a king have to show good example so that his citizen will respect him. But, actually Oedipus had done big mistake that will ruin his life. He had killed his own father, King Laios, and married his own mother. He was living in a state of shameless and bizzare without noticing it.
